Stress

You're not alone – stress is part of life, but it doesn’t have to take over.

Stress can creep up on us without warning. Whether it’s due to work, relationships, finances, or unexpected life events, stress can have a huge impact on our mental and physical wellbeing. It's important to recognise the signs and know how to manage it before it overwhelms us.

What is stress?

Stress is the body's natural reaction to feeling under pressure or threatened. It’s a response designed to help us deal with challenging situations – also known as the “fight or flight” response. While some stress can motivate us, too much for too long can be damaging. Chronic stress can affect sleep, relationships, health, and how we cope with daily life.

Signs of Stress

Everyone experiences stress differently, but common signs include:

  • Feeling overwhelmed or irritable
  • Trouble sleeping or feeling constantly tired
  • Racing thoughts or difficulty concentrating
  • Changes in appetite
  • Physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, or stomach problems
  • Withdrawing from friends and family

You're not alone – support is available

Talking to someone about how you feel can make a big difference. Whether it's a friend, family member, or professional, opening up helps to reduce the load. Consider:

  • Speaking to your GP
  • Contacting support services like Mind or Samaritans
  • Trying stress management techniques like mindfulness, breathing exercises, or journaling
  • Taking regular breaks and practising self-care
  • Remember: it's okay to ask for help – you don’t have to manage it all on your own. Contact us if you are in need of some advice or guidance

Stress is a natural part of life, but when it feels like too much, it’s time to pause, reflect, and reach out. You deserve support, peace of mind, and time to breathe. Take each day step by step – and know that better days are ahead.
